10. Five Good Senses
What do these mean? Sensors on my surface- nerve endings on skin;
Winkers in my noggin- eyes in head; Buddies on my wagger- tastebuds on
tongue; Flappers by my sideburns- ears; schnozzel- nose.
1. Experiment with the absence of each of the five senses, using the
other senses to help. Plug nose and try to taste or smell something.
find way around room blindfolded, determine water's temperature
without touching, etc.
2. The silly words in this song are called slang. They are descriptive
and imaginative. In slang, shoes could be called "floor scuffers".
Have the class make up a "slang" message to send to another class. Can
they figure it out? If they reply, can you figure their's out?
14. Moods
People and animals use "body language" to show how they feel. They also
react differently to the same situation. An angry person may yell, or
turn away and refuse to talk. A frightened animal might bite, or run
away and hide. What moods do we have in common with our pets? How good
are you at reading their body language?
1. Encourage the children to imitate the pet's actions in this song. Talk about other ways animals might react.
2. Have a small group put on a short play (The Three Bears?),
pantomiming and using body language instead of reciting lines.
Can the rest of the class understand what's going on? OR, play
charades.
Colors also indicate moods. Hold up colored paper (try variety of
shades, too) Ask what moods do specific colors bring to mind, i.e.dark blue- stormy; light blue- contentment; some people "feel blue"- sad.
